Yesterday I spent my day in an excellent event where teachers from all over the world get together to exchange knowledge and ideas.
I can't leave you out of what I have learned there, so I bring here some great highlights for us (teachers, parents and students) to think about.
Well, the main lesson is: let's pay more attention to people and relationships. How? First, leaving out cell phones, raising our heads and looking people in the eye. Restoring values, appreciating our own dreams and aspirations (and the others' as well) and respecting people's feelings and mood.
Accepting mistakes, failures and learning from them, investing in interpersonal communication, developing self-awareness are some further steps.
We must take into account these words of advice inside classroom as students and teachers.
Well, as teachers, we must "pave the way with soft skills". This is the message of Gregg Sotiropoulos, from MM Publications. It means we should focus more on human skills than on the technical ones. In a balance of importance, it would be 85% against 15%.
If we are parents or teachers, we should listen to this carefully and begin these practices from the very beginning of a child's life.
We can do it. Let's go for it!
